Is there a cure for cold and flu?
Update: – I’ve found some resources that might help with relieving cold and flu. Find them at the end of the article.
One of the thing that makes me wonder the most about the modern medicine is how it can relatively effective help with some very difficult illnesses and how advanced the medical technology has become and how it is really powerless against the 2 most common illnesses: cold and flu.
The only thing the doctor can prescribe are some chemicals to lessen the symptoms of these diseases: some paracetamol kind of pills to reduce the body heat and maybe something for a sore throat. Some nasal drops might help for a short time but they are definitely not a cure. How come that they can restore eyesight and can’t heal the running nose?
I’ve been thinking about this for some time now but returned to this thought now that me, my wife and my kid got ill one after another with the cold or something similar. I’ve recently bought a guide book for natural medicine which is like a reference on various illnesses and the possible way to deal with it, comparing traditional medicine with the alternative, mostly chinese medicine, homeopathy, natural herbs and some other kinds.
On the subject of cold it had 6 pages. First it stated that traditional medicine has nothing good to offer. That it tells the chinese medicine’s view on the problem of cold. Apparently, the chinese medicine differentiates the cold into 2 basic subtypes: ‘cold‘ and ‘hot‘. They have different symptoms, and so different cures. I wonder if my doctor, which I went to see, has subtypes for cold. Anyway, he concluded that I had an ‘unspecified viral infection‘ of something and prescribed the paracetamol and pills for sore throat.
The book then goes on and describes a type of head massage to help with the cold, a number of different types if herbal extracts to prepare and drink, depending on the symptoms and the kind of the cold. It then describes about a dozen different homeopathic remedies, each better working when specific symptoms are present. When reading the symptoms for the various homeopathic type drugs I’ve come to notice how vastly different the symptoms of the cold can be and found some that were relevant to my condition at that time and some that I’ve had in the past times that I’ve gotten cold. It’s really interesting how differently the various medicine types approach the simple cold.
What do you do when you get cold or flu? And how come the traditional medicine cannot really help?
Update: There are two resources that I wanted to share with you that might help you in relieving cold and flu:
Hydrogen Peroxide For Colds and Flu – Dr. Mercola’s website describes how administering several drops of hydrogen peroxide into ears can often help in curing common cold and flu in the early stages.
What to Do When You Get a Cold – This website has the following recommendation based on TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicice):
The moment the first symptom appears avoid ALL junk foods, fried foods, sweets, meat, eggs, dairy products, coffee, alcohol and soft drinks. Your body needs to cleanse itself and these foods and drinks will only hinder the process. Eat foods in as close to their natural state as possible. Drink only pure water. Add freshly squeezed lemon juice, which is very cleansing, or sip pure lemon juice. Get plenty of rest, minimize stress AND do the Bellows Breath. This powerful breathing exercise clears your lungs and airways, relaxes and energizes you and prevents further colds if you do it daily. Prevention, in all traditional Chinese therapies is, after all, the primary aim!
