I'm going to go take a real fix - pharmaceuticals.
Maybe I'll try some snake oil or go by something expensive because a guy with a British accent is teling me to.
Get a clue people.
Sorry Matt, but "sinus cavities" are holes in the bones of your skull and -- let me be very clear here -- are NOT moved by this massage technique (or any other). Seriously, where do you get off lying to people like that?

The pseudoephedrine helps initially for about the first 3-4 days, then I become refractory to the effects (don't know why). Increasing the dose does not help.
I tried the exercise described above with mixed results. So I neither endorse it or discard its validity (yet). What helps me on a consistent basis (this will be your turn to be skeptical about me) is that whenever I have a clogged nose, I do 20-25 push-ups, and my nose immediately clears up, albeit temporarily (but oh man, what a relief!).
The physiologic basis for this is sympathetic stimulation. Increasing my activity level causes sympathetic nerve endings to release noradrenaline that causes constriction of mucosal blood vessels, thus reducing the swelling and relieving the blockage in the nose. Pseudoephedrine works in such a way that it displaces the noradrenaline from the presynaptic vesicles, thus enabling it to exert its action on the blood vessels. However, in my case, the medication quits working after several days.
So I guess after this lengthy post, one can offer a possible explanation as to why this exercise works. It could be that by physically applying pressure to the prescribed pressure points that one can activate sympathetic stimulation in the facial region (I still have yet to look at Netters to look at the anatomy - the superior cervical ganglion and its branches would be a strong candidate, I think - or it could be from trigeminal, not so sure now, it's been a while), or it could be psychosomatic, that the mind can still do things that we are have yet to figure out.
Anyway, this could be a good topic for research if it hasn't been investigated yet. That's my two cents.
I have had a completely stopped-up nose for the past five hours, I could not even take a single breath of air through it... After five minutes of exercizing, doing push-ups and sit-ups in the living-room at 1am, I can finally breathe!!
Granted, it will probably not be for long, but it feels wonderful to be able to pass a little air through my nose, and I am hoping to fall asleep before it gets bad again.
Great tip
(the massage did not help me at all btw)
with flonase i was able to dump all the afrin and "instant relief" sinus medicine in the garbage, and my understanding is that often people have cyclic sinus problems, so after being on flonase for a while it's likely you can go off again in periods of months or years, depending on your body.
I don't know this drug you're mentioning, so I can't state anything for sure about this.
(And please do excuse my spelling and colloquialisation here.)
Chek yo gramma, fewl!
Re:
"I can't beleive you've never heard of Flonase you are ridiculous. In my mind everyone the best way to get rid of sinus congestion is pseudoephedrine AKA sudafed. On another note everyone should be more aware of their spelling; come on people!"
Wahaha, this post totally cracked me up.
Hang on. Is this what we were talking about on the thread.. I forgot for a minute. No, that's right - we were discussing "alternatives" to common drugs for nasal congestion. And you suggested? A common drug for nasal congestion! Cheers dude. Helpful Insightful. Will keep that handy with the spelling tip. Lol
Oh yeah, also, I have to say - actually, the weirdest thing of all was to hear someone actually disrespected for not having heard of a particular brand! Lol, what kind of a crazy world has capitalism built, where this could become a way by which we judge others to be ridiculous. Think you might have taken a wrong turn on the way to the Flonase Representative intranet chat room! C'mon man, you're a brand plant, right? Trying to convert the cyber-hippy micro-market? You can tell us...
PS. In response to the actual forum topic - I tried it tonight after rainy-day-start-of-winter-type-sniffles, and it worked for me. Cheers Jacob. Now I have to go to work tomorrow!

thanks for the posting about the pressure points
But seriously, congratulations!
The added benefit of flushing your nose with warm salt water with a neti pot is that it helps to clean out and invigorate your nostrils and flush out the bacteria and muck that builds up there. Try it every morning and evening and you will see results. This acupuncture technique may be helpful for cases when the nose is too stuffed.
The major aspect to control with mucus is diet. So much of western diet contains large amountsof sugar and starches which cause more mucus production in the body. Change your diet and many of the mucus problems will change with it. You can also have herbs like pepper and other "warming" elements which can help to clear your sinuses.
I had a question about the pressures; do you push and rotate or do you just hold and rotate on the pressure point. I'm asking because pushing on the cartilage of my nose and ear feels a little awkward. Also, about pressure point #2: should I just push on the bone at the bridge of my nose?
~
fsckr
Also, you should not push the cartilage of the nose and definitely not the ear's. In the nose, only the bottom part of the nostrils are being pushed. In the ears (point 3), it's the cavity just below the cartilage and the rotation is not wide, so you're actually more pushing and releasing the point when you do the round movements.
Point 2 is just below the corner of the eyes where the tears come out (where you take the stuff out of your eyes when you wake up in the morning). The rotation is done without lifting the finger but by moving the skin. It's once again more of a pushing-releasing kind of rotation and you should feel the corner of the eye when your applying the pressure.
Hopefully this clarifies how I do it.
1) the cheek bone near the corner of the eye opposite the stuffiness
2) the bone just behind the ear oppositethe stuffiness
i.e. if I am stuffy on the right side, I lay on my left side and prop my head up with the heal of my hand.
BUT, the other nostril, which was free before, got stuffed as a result. So I guess it's just gravity.
Thanks for the tip...

Same thing happens when I go for a meeting (this is a pain). Everytime I go for a meeting I start getting nasal congestions. This is because I get nervous.
I just did the massage technique and it feels a little better but not perfect yet. I'll keep doing it every 10 minutes because I want something to work and I'm too cheap to buy product to allow me to breathe through my nose.
I think Eugene (post #13) above is onto something by thinking it's psychological. Just reading the instructions caused my nose to clear up slightly, but not completely.
It's fantastic!
The dairy industry is definetely out of control. What other animals drinks another animal's infant milk? It's simply retarded! Just because it doesn't kill immediately, doesn't mean it's good for you.
And one more thing: never listen or trust what goverment makes you beleive. Do your own research.
My doctor is trying to get it through my idiotic skull (in a much less blunt way, of course) that milk is bad.
If I could just get off the cheese.....
BUT the accupressure thing does work.
"i think everything" so please i'm desperate, thanks...celestial
